Joel Anthony Legaspi, 50, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018. He was born in Jacksonville, Fla., to Virgilio Legaspi and Rose Sevilla.
He was a graduate of Green Run High School and attended Radford University. He was a member of the Army National Guard with service in the 82nd Airborne Division, Fraternal Order of Police, and was recently elected deacon at Calvary Virginia Beach.
He was a correctional officer at Indian Creek Correctional Facility. Joel was a loving husband and father, and he enjoyed taking trips with his family. He was a kind-hearted man, and a good friend to many. He loved to have fun, enjoyed life and was often found telling jokes. He loved camping, bonfires and the stillness of the mountains.
Joel is survived by his loving wife and son, Amanda and Kyle; mother, Rose; mother-in-law, Wanda; sisters Eva, Rubylee and Llumee; sister-in-law, Lorrie; brothers-in-law, Rick, James and Emmanuel; nephews; Marcus, Ethan, Noah, Mason and Logan; nieces, Cami and Evelyn; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is loved and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 26, at Calvary Virginia Beach, 4832 Haygood Road, Virginia Beach. Joel’s celebration of life will be held at noon, Saturday, Jan. 27, at the church. Interment will follow services in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk.
