
Maxine Taylor Cox, 93, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, after a brief illness.
Maxine is survived by two loving daughters, Linda Cox Davenport (Bill) and Sue Cox Davis (George); and seven grandchildren, Frank Davenport (Wendy), Kim Stanley (Grant), Sue McCluney (Scott), Ryan Davis (Pamela), Jeremiah Fox (Patty), Jessie Valentine (Steven) and Jacob Fox. She is also survived by a growing group of great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Christopher, Carrie, Chase, Taylor, Wade, Colby, Connor, Reagan, Jasey, Rachel, Jordan, Ada and Tyler; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and close friends.
Born in Elkins, W.Va., and raised in Morgantown, W.Va., Mrs. Cox, the daughter of Albert D. Taylor and Ada Moore Taylor, was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 64 years, Franklin L. Cox; and sister, Evelyn “Toots” Goff.
Maxine worked as a librarian at the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Va. After marrying Franklin L. Cox, she co-owned Cox TV and Appliance Co. with him and worked as the bookkeeper until retirement. She enjoyed spending time with all of her family, playing cards with her friends, attending the Joy Club socials at her church, participating in Women’s bible studies, knitting and crocheting, completing word puzzles and even watching a good baseball game. Maxine Cox was a faithful member of Tidewater Central Church of the Nazarene for 60-plus years.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 8, at Tidewater Central Church of the Nazarene with a visitation one hour prior to services.
