Anna Zepht Stone, 95, longtime resident of Williamsburg, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at home surrounded by family.
She was born Oct. 28, 1921, in East Chicago, Ind. She graduated from William & Mary and was employed by NACA as a physicist. It was there she met her husband, Ralph W. Stone. They enjoyed a 62-year marriage prior to his death in 2007.
During their marriage, Anna and Ralph were able to travel around the world several times. She took great joy in her church, sewing, crafts, reading and family. She was loved for her sense of humor, generosity, dedication and spirituality. She was beloved by her family, friends, book club and all the people she sheltered and supported. She was independent, upbeat and vital all the way up to her brief and quick slide into death.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; son, Win; parents, Marie and Ernst Zepht; sisters, Elsie and Marie, and their husbands, Billy and Larry. She is survived by her children, Pam and John Reilly of Richmond, Ree Stone of Williamsburg and Kim and Chris Rumsey of Newport News; grandchildren, Erika Stone of Sacramento, Calif., Reuben and Rebekah Burger of Portland, Ore., Kirsten Rumsey of Washington, D.C., and Hannah Rumsey of Chicago, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Kiran Addanki and Rachel Addanki; exchange-student daughters, Kay Lance of Australia, Sara Blucher of Sweden, Nelleke Ongering of Holland; foster granddaughter, Luxi Qin of Fredericksburg, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Anna’s family thanks hospice and Janie Prior for helping and guiding them through the last week of her wonderful life and enabling her and them to have a peaceful time at the end.
A celebration of Anna’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Hickory Neck Episcopal Church.
