Elizabeth G. Pappas, 91, greatest pleasure was working at Westminster-Canterbury Meditation Garden

Elizabeth G. Pappas, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 4, 2016, at her Virginia Beach residence. She was born in Weldon, N.C., the daughter of the late Gus and Martha Pappas.

She lived several years in Ahoskie, N.C., and graduated from Ahoskie High School. Miss Pappas had a career in music and received music degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and Northwestern University School of Music with further study at the New England Conservatory and the Peabody Conservatory with Leon Fleisher.

Having taught at various schools, she also taught at Old Dominion University for 30 years. Membership in professional music organizations included Sigma Alpha Iota and Pi Kappa Lambda. She was a Norfolk master gardener and worked at Norfolk Botanical Garden for several years. Also, she did volunteer work with the Tidewater Literacy Council. One of her greatest pleasures was working at the Meditation Garden at Westminster-Canterbury. Miss Pappas was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Norfolk.

She was preceded in death by one brother, John.

Survivors include two loving nieces and their families, Susan Williams of Williamsburg and Beth Ferrel of Durham, N.C.

At her request, she will be cremated and privately buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery with her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster-Canterbury Foundation, Attention: Meditation Garden or General Fund, 3100 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23451; or to your favorite charity.
