Rudolph Joseph ‘Rudy’ List, 90, of Williamsburg, born on January 1, 1926, in Corona, N.Y., passed peacefully on Sunday, April 3, 2016.

He celebrated his 90th birthday with joy surrounded by the family he loves.

Rudy served in the U.S. Army as a translator in Germany during World War II. He was a technical sergeant of the 33rd Field Artillery Battalion. He also served as a sergeant first class in the Enlisted Reserve Corps. He graduated from Clarkson University with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He received his master’s degree in applied math and a master’s in business administration from Adelphi University.

He retired after 36 years from Unisys Corporation, which was formed from the merger of Sperry Corporation, where Rudy spent his career, and Burroughs. Rudy primarily worked on navigation systems for military aircraft and submarines in various engineering and management capacities.

He loved dogs, golf, bridge and traveling the world. His last journey was to Normandy, France.

Rudy was preceded in death by his daughter, Laurie Cordes.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Shirley List of Williamsburg; daughters, Karen List of Glastonbury, Conn., and Judith List, and her husband, Bret Buesing, of Naples, Fla.; sons, Michael, and his wife, Linda List, of Huntersville, N.C., and Christopher, and his wife, Lanie List, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; stepchildren, Linda and Art Schlemmer of Cincinnati, Ohio, Stephen and Lee Buente of Hamilton Square, N.J., Leslie and Leonard Hirsh of Venice, Fla., Lisa Towns of Middletown, Del., and Kevin Buente of Glen Mills, Pa.; and his 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

His family is grateful for the care he received from the staff at Brookdale and Sentara Hospice.

Mr. List will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
