Winton R. Ward, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 31, 2016, in Virginia Beach. He was born on February 15, 1927, in Columbia, N.C., to Henry E. and Mittie B. Ward.
Winton was a past master and active member of Berkley Lodge No. 167, A.F. & A.M. for 67 years. He was past district deputy grandmaster of the 36th Masonic District and was privileged to have served in many other capacities. He served as captain of Khedive Shrine Center, Chesapeake, in 1995. Winton retired from the U.S. federal government in 1989; he took up golfing as his ‘second career.’
The family wants to thank everyone who has shown love and care for our dad. Our deepest gratitude goes to Dr. Mike Camp for his many years of skilled and loving care of our family. Other special caretakers over recent weeks were Mary Jane Teal, Trudy Drake, ‘Pigeon’ Hoggarty and her staff and the staff at Westminster Canterbury.
The family will receive friends at a visitation held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. Winton and family have requested Masonic rites at the funeral service, which will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him. Proverbs 20:7.
