Dennis Eugene “Hooper” Nixon, surrounded by family and friends, lost his five-year battle with Ewings Sarcoma on January 30, 2016. His strength, refusal to give in, and positive attitude were constants.

He was born October 6, 1978 in Virginia Beach and graduated from Cox High School in 1996. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Louise and Eugene Holman, his paternal grandparents, Rosella and Edwin Nixon, and his paternal aunt, Marla. He is survived by his parents Claire and Dennis Nixon, his sister Kristi Nixon, aunts/uncles Tom and Christine Holman, James and Ruth Nixon, Gary Nixon, William Nixon, Michael and Kate Nixon, many cousins and a multitude of loving friends and neighbors.

Before illness forced his return to the Beach from Harrisonburg, he was a manager and bartender extraordinaire for Outback, Dave’s and Luigi’s. He was a Star Wars aficionado and was gifted in both music and art. His biggest gift was what he did for others. He always looked for the best in people and his loyalty knew no bounds. His charm, wit, ready smile, and true compassion will never be forgotten. He leaves so many people the legacy of friendship and love as well as inspiration, clarity and perspective.

The family would like to thank the dear friends who sat vigil with us and everyone else who has shared a funny story or caring message. Special thanks to Dr. Michael Douvas, UVA; Dr. Michael Danso, VOA; Dr. Bethany Tan, Sentara and the ICU staff at Norfolk General.

A funeral service will conducted February 5, 2016 at 6:30 PM at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road Chapel. Because of Dennis’ natural affinity for all animals, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the VBSPCA. Thank you.
