Delores E. Bly, 87, longtime member of Shiloh Baptist Church

delores blyDelores E. Bly answered the Master’s call on Friday, January 22, 2016, in Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News.

Her life began on September 15, 1928, the daughter of the late Viola Lee Smith and George F. Goodlow. She attended York County Training School.

Mrs. Bly was a longtime member of Shiloh Baptist Church, in Yorktown. She was a devoted member of her church and the founder of the Lula A. Norton Society. She also faithfully served her church as member of the senior choir, the Missionary Ministry, Sunday School and the Wednesday Noon-Day Bible Study.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry L. Bly, Sr., her daughter, Linda A. Meadows and her son, Gerald Watson.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her sons, John A. Carter (Juanita) and Henry L. Bly, Jr. (Tracier); her devoted granddaughter, Sherri Combs; her ten other grandchildren; her seven great-grandchildren; her loving siblings, Ruth Dixon (Thomas), Nola Cheseman, Annie Jones (Wilbur) and John F. Wyatt, Jr. (Mamie); her special cousin, that she thought of as her sister, Ethel Curtis (Thomas); her very dear friend, Elaine Evans and many other loving relatives and caring friends.

A funeral service will be held noon Friday, January 29, 2016, in Shiloh Baptist Church, Yorktown, with the Rev. Barbara Lemon officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the church by 11:45 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Bly may be viewed in the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
