Glenn LaRue Plott, 92, spent his career in the ministry

Glenn LaRue Plott, 92, died December 12 at home. His wife, sister, children and grandchildren were with him.

The gathering of his family and being in the company of his many friends were his greatest joys. There was always a seat at his table for sharing food, conversation and stories.

He was a life long learner and a keeper of the family history. He found beauty all around him – in art, the written word and nature, especially the Virginia mountains.

Glenn served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, then completed his education at the University of Richmond, the Baptist Seminary in Louisville, and Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, where he received his Doctor of Ministry degree. He served early pastorates in Gordonsville, VA and Charlotte, NC, and retired after serving 25 years at the Walnut Hill Baptist Church in Petersburg, VA.

He was married to his wife Sheila for 66 years. Their children are daughter Nancy and husband Dick Williams, daughter Jennie and husband Rick Betton, son Glenn and wife Cass Plott, and daughter Julia , widow of Michael Oravetz. His grandchildren and their spouses are Will, Meredith, Sam, Walker, Anna, Justin, Molly, William, Jeremy and George; Glenn’s sister is Linda Moore.

A service of remembrance will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Williamsburg Baptist Church, 227 Richmond Rd, Williamsburg, VA.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hope Tree Family Services, 860 Mt. Vernon Lane, Salem, VA 24153 – designated for the Developmental Disability Ministry.

Please leave online condolences for the family at Nelsen Funeral Home.
