Robert J. Atkinson, of Virginia Beach, died Oct. 28, 2015, at the age of 85.
Bob was born in Arkansas to the late Clifford and Stella Atkinson. His loving wife of over 50 years, Jeanne Atkinson, and all of his siblings preceded him in death.
Bob was a certified public accountant (CPA). He was also the quiet backbone of Stratford Preschool, handling the school’s accounting and paperwork for his beloved wife. His first career was in the U.S. Navy, from which he retired as a commander. Bob was devoted to his family and faith and tried to live the adage of “Being his brother’s keeper.” He was a member of Baylake United Methodist Church for over 45 years and remained active in the church until his death. He enjoyed playing the piano, lunches with friends and lively book discussions with friends and family.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Patino, of Baltimore and Mr. and Mrs. Randal Atkinson, of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Camilla and Anthony Patino; sisters-in-law, Edwina Atkinson, Nita Atkinson, Wanda LeaVesseur and Charlotte McDaniel; along with extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, at Baylake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clark Cundiff officiating.
