Judy Stanley Burris, 71, enjoyed gardening, crosswords and watching NASCAR

Judy Stanley Burris, of Virginia Beach, transitioned to her heavenly home on Nov. 10, 2015, to join our Lord and to reunite with her partner and soulmate of 32 years, Kenneth Burris. She was 71.

She was born on Aug. 26, 1944, daughter of the late Walter and Roma Stanley, of Roanoke County and was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack and Ray Stanley; sisters, Arlene (Oscar) Willis, Gaye (Arthur) Lancaster; and brother-in-law, Clarence Altis.

Surviving are a brother, Elton Stanley (Evelyn); sisters, Mauvieleen Altis and Dawn Stanley; in-laws, Jack (Reba) Burris, Nancy Williams and Donna Burris; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Left to cherish her memory are a son, Keith; daughter-in-law, Nikki; and a grandchild, Jameson (little Miss Sunshine).

She was so very proud of her family and loved them with all her heart. They gave her so much joy, inspiration and were especially attentive to her needs. Judy graduated from Cave Spring High School, attended Roanoke College and graduated from Old Dominion University with a degree in business administration.

Her working career spanned 39 years with Norfolk and Western Railway Co. and Norfolk Southern Corporation, retiring as system manager facilities. Upon retirement, Judy enjoyed spending precious time with family and friends as well as gardening, crosswords and watching NASCAR.

Special friends who were so loving and supportive over the years became part of her extended family and include Jane (Matt) Blackwell, Karen (Bill), Mandy and Chris Burton and Jim Mason of the Roanoke area. Also, from the Hampton Roads area are Kay (Bobby) Wilkerson, Carmel (John) Adamo, Ann Ellis and Jessie Davis, members of the “Lucky Ladies” luncheon group and Jamie (Jerry) Caddy. From the Richmond area are Dick Carper and Sandi Jones and from Georgia, Barb (Jim) and Jimmy Ogle and Judy (Tom) Worthington.

The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Alberico for the excellent care of Judy during the past seven years as well as Linda Sawyer, Debbie Simmons and the staff of Virginia Oncology Associates. Thanks also to the nursing staff of 2 South (Oncology) at Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, 1457 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach. In Roanoke, visitation will be from 9 to noon on Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at Oakey’s Funeral Home, South Chapel at 4257 Brambleton Ave., Roanoke. Funeral service will follow at noon. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
