Carrie Elizabeth Vernon Miles died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was 87.
Her life’s journey began on Sept. 14, 1927, daughter of the late Martha and Simuel Vernon, in York County.
She was a longtime member of Grafton Baptist Church, Harris Grove, Yorktown. She was a 1945 graduate of York County Training School. She was formerly employed by Ft. Eustis, Yorktown Naval Weapons Station and York County Public Schools.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughters, Novie Combs (Earl) and Berthel Moore (Robert); sons, Larry Miles (Evelyn) and Ralph Miles (Julia), all of Hampton; sister, Alice Armstead; brother, Haywood Vernon (Lorraine); very dear cousin and friend, Louise Allen; and many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Miles may be viewed at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at Grafton Baptist Church, Harris Grove, Yorktown. Family and friends will then assemble by 10 a.m. at 133 Crafford Road for the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
