Ray Phillips, 81, passionate about playing, listening to bluegrass music

Ray Phillips, of Williamsburg, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at the age of 81.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Rosie Phillips; brothers, Hershel, Chester, J.C, Flay and Earl; and sister, Mildred.

Ray is survived by his wife of 23 years, Wanda Phillips; daughter, Joyce Ann Phillips Press; grandchildren, Max, Tabitha and Amanda Press, great-grandchildren, Hannah and Virginia Press; sisters, Shirley, Sheila and Elizabeth; brothers, Reggie, Ivan and Johnny; stepchildren, Larry, Evelyn and Dean; five step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Ray loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also had a passion for both playing and listening to bluegrass music.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 17, 2015, at Smith Memorial Baptist Church, 6515 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Aug. 18, 2015, at Williamsburg Memorial Park, 130 King William Drive, Williamsburg, VA 23188.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Pkwy., Williamsburg, VA 23188.
