William Edwards “Dan” Daniels, U.S. Navy Ret., died peacefully at home Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the age of 92. He was a resident of Yorktown for 52 years.
Mr. Daniels was born in 1922 to Thad and Lydia Daniels in New Bern, N.C. After his mother’s death in 1925, he was raised by his grandparents, Lewis and Mary Ives of Grifton, N.C. After high school, he entered the U.S. Navy and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He spent many years serving his country until he retired in 1960. After moving to Yorktown in 1962, he worked at the Naval Weapons Station.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Irene Helen Daniels.
He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Cryer and her husband, Daryl; children, Hailey, Kyle and Morgan; great-granddaughter, Chloe; and special friend, Christa Hinton. He was blessed to have many wonderful friends and neighbors and will be missed by many.
Graveside services are pending at Arlington National Cemetery.
