William “Paul” Dean, 94, a true family man who returned to farming the family lands after retirement

William “Paul” Dean, of New Kent, died June 29, 2014, at the age of 94.

He was a true a family man who loved the land. Mr. Dean retired from Camp Peary after 20 years of service and returned to farming the family lands the rest of his life. He was a lifelong member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church and a lifelong resident of Barhamsville until 2012 when both he and his wife moved to Spring Arbor of Williamsburg.

Mr. Dean was the son of the late James and Janie Dean and was preceded in death by his wife, Sophie Hove Dean; brothers, James, Pelton and Horace Dean; and great-grandson, Nathan Ogle.

He is survived by two daughters, Ruth Fostek (Alex), of Eltham and Janis Little (Chris), of Providence Forge; son, Billy Dean (Yvonne), of Barhamsville; brother, David Dean (Nancy), of Barhamsville; sister Edna Fowlkes, of Providence Forge; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th Street, West Point, VA 23181. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. July 3, 2014, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 22051 Tabernacle Road, Barhamsville, VA 23011. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Spring Arbor for their loving care and assistance and Hospice Community Care of Newport News.
