Carter “Buddy” Manning Griesenauer, 82, Korean War Veteran and Walsingham Grad

Carter “Buddy” Manning Griesenauer never met a stranger and was always ready to work on anything for his family and friends.

He died peacefully Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the age of 82.

Mr. Griesenauer graduated from Walsingham Academy in 1950 where he was #3 in his class. He was a Korean War Veteran who retired from the Virginia National Guard as a Technician at Byrd Field, Sandston. He was also retired from the GQ, 329th Spt. Op (Area) Virginia Army National Guard.

Years before the auto remote starting mechanism was introduced to the public, Mr. Griesenauer had developed it for his wife’s car but never submitted the patent. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Beach Comber Restaurant and the Fleet Association and many have benefited from his generosity over the years.

He was born April 10, 1931, in Newport News and was preceded in death by his father, Paul Griesenauer; mother, Helen Carter; brother, Paul Raymond Griesenauer; sister, Betty Price; and daughter, Donna Lynn Griesenauer.

He is survived by his son, Keith Griesenauer; daughter and son in law, Kim and David Pickett; granddaughters, Heather Gerviss and husband, Mike and Elisa Wilkie; great-grandchildren, Nora Wilkie and Yaunder McElrath; “problem child,” Becky Stamor; and nephews, Paul Price and Blake Price.

A graveside service was held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
