George A. Philbates, Jr., a member of Pamunkey United Methodist Church and of New Kent, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013.

Mr. Philbates was the owner and operator of Philbates Auto Wrecking for 58 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Gladys Philbates.

He is survived by his wife, Becky Philbates; children, George Philbates, III, Patricia Berry (Wade), Cynthia Fields (John) and Kenneth Philbates; stepchildren, John D. Hott, Jr (Kristen), William Hott and Mary Catherine Crowder (John); brother, Floyd Philbates (Betty); sister, Julia Harlow (Sammy); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th Street, West Point, VA 23181, with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Pamunkey United Methodist Church.
