Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a James City County man, whose body was found in a grassy area near a motel in the Lightfooot area.

Michael Dean Slye, 59, was booked into the Virginia Peninsula Jail Thursday on a single count of second-degree murder “in relation to the death of Terrence Orlando Pressey.”

He is being held without bond. Slye was a resident and employee of the motel, police said.

James City County Police said officers were called to at 7:30 a.m. Saturday to the Motel Zima at 6493 Richmond Road after “somebody” saw a body lying in the grass next to the parking lot.

An autopsy conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Norfolk ruled homicide was the manner of death.

Police declined to release information on how Pressey was killed, saying only their preliminary investigation “revealed that Slye killed Pressey sometime on the evening of Aug. 28 following a verbal altercation.”

“Investigations have asked that we not release that because it’s still an ongoing investigation,” James City County Police Deputy Chief Steve Rubino said.

Authorities are still asking for information to help in their investigation. Any information about the case can be relayed by calling the Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP. You may also submit tips at P3tips.com.
