WILLIAMSBURG — For one week, visitors can tour inspired private landscapes, public gardens and historic sites across Virginia, enjoying our beautiful state at the peak of spring. This beloved statewide event includes unique tours organized and hosted by 48 member clubs located across the Commonwealth.

Locally, the Williamsburg Garden Club will celebrate Virginia’s Historic Garden Week on Tuesday, April 29, from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with a walking tour of Colonial Williamsburg and several nearby homes.

The Williamsburg walking tour includes entry to three properties rarely open to the public, four gardens with horticultural staff in Colonial Williamsburg, and showcases four private homes constructed between the late 1700s and 1950s in the Indian Springs and Burns Lane neighborhood.

In addition, visitors will have access to two private gardens: a large woodland garden filled with boxwoods and meandering paths and a compact backyard flower and vegetable-producing garden.

The homes will also feature floral arrangements created by Garden Club of Virginia members.

Altogether, this tour includes 13 sites, making for a full day. This year, the tour will not have shuttles.

Complimentary refreshments will be served in the gardens at 207 Burns Lane Garden and 200 Indian Springs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

“These statewide tours are to support the Garden Club mission of conservation and preservation. Williamsburg is so interesting, because you get the Colonial piece and these are very interesting properties,” said Katie Mulherin, marketing chair for Williamsburg Garden Club.

This year the tour includes The Belle Farm House located at 316 Indian Springs Road, which was originally built in Gloucester in 1775, moved to Williamsburg in 1928 and then rebuilt at its current address in 1952.
