Busch Gardens Announces Newest Roller Coaster Name

WILLIAMSBURG— Darkness descends upon Busch Gardens Williamsburg in 2025 as the Busch Gardens Williamsburg reveals the name of its newest roller coaster “The Big Bad Wolf: The Wolf’s Revenge.”

The ride’s story is set in a bustling Bavarian village preparing for the legendary Festival of the Silent Bells. However, the celebration quickly turns into chaos as glowing red eyes and bone-chilling howls signal the return of a terrifying creature. While trekking across the German countryside, riders become the beast on this all-new experience.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg made a surprise announcement about the new coaster during its Howl-O-Scream preview event.

The coaster’s story is the continued tale of the Big Bad Wolf, which opened in 1984 and was permanently closed in September 2009.

Built by Arrow Dynamics, Verbolten currently sits at the former ride’s location. The new ride will be located in the Oktoberfest Pavilion behind Das Festhaus.

The park said the name of the ride came following a naming contest during which its most passionate fans cast over 30,000 votes – and shared their own thoughts on what the name should be.

Busch Gardens explained the fans were loud and clear on their desire to see the park honor the legacy of an old favorite while launching an all-new family-friendly attraction. As a result, Busch Gardens Williamsburg chose the ride’s name specifically to build upon a beloved attraction in the park’s history with a new twist.

The name announcement says that “The Big Bad Wolf: The Wolf’s Revenge” will deliver a highly immersive and thematic experience.

Much like its predecessor, the new thrill ride will be an inverted roller coaster. When completed, Busch Gardens said it will be North America’s longest inverted family coaster, with 2,583 feet of track traveled. The ride will top out at 40 miles per hour and will have two height levels requirement: 42 inches to ride with a supervising companion and 48 in to ride alone.

The coaster is manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard – a company that specializes in custom-designed roller coasters. The company is credited with having built over 120 roller coasters around the world according to Coasterpedia and notably also designed Alpengeist and Apollo’s Chariot at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

“This attraction is unlike anything we’ve ever done before,” said Kevin Lembke, Busch Gardens Williamsburg Park President. “We’ve created an experience that combines storytelling with family-friendly thrills. Guests will feel completely immersed in the story of the Bavarian village, as the sound of screams and the echo of a howling wolf creates chaos in the familiar town.”

Located in the Octoberfest area of the park, this all-new thrill will be the park’s eleventh coaster.

Busch Gardens says members will be among the first to ride this new coaster when it opens next year.
