WILLIAMSBURG — Local Outdoor Lighting Specialist Raymond Cooke looks to do more with his small business in the Williamsburg community.
Cooke has a 30-year history in landscaping and lighting projects, including golf courses. A few years ago, both he and his wife moved back to the area to start over. He decided he had always loved the lighting part of his job, and that was what he wanted to do, and started a business to specialize in it.
The business officially launched in March, and its primary focus is on custom-designed lighting for businesses and houses.
Cooke also has Multiple Sclerosis or MS, a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. As such, he is taking a portion of all of his proceeds and donating it to the National MS Society to bring awareness to the disease.
“When you work for other businesses, you have to do it their way,” said Robyn Cooke, Raymond’s wife and operations manager for RC Squared. “It’s kind of nice to open your own business and do things the way that you know they should be done.”
She added it was this desire to have things be perfect and done right that led to the name of the business — RC Squared — as he likes to make sure everything is squared up, done right and customized for clients.
Cooke does everything in-house, from meeting with the clients, designing, installation and maintenance. He also works with clients based on their budget.
“When you’re coming back and you’re doing business around all the people you love. This is our stomping grounds, and it’s kind of nice to be back here and just highlight all the beauty,” Robyn said. “I didn’t realize, I didn’t have the insight to realize that we did grow up in a great place and you go all around the country and you come back and you’re like, ‘yeah, this is okay.’ And now we get to highlight it and make it pretty and bring everyone’s attention to it.”
