NEWPORT NEWS — The Sheriff’s Office here arrested a man in connection with the June 26 bomb threat case that led to the evacuation of the three Newport News courthouses.

Da’Quan S. Burrell, 24, is charged with felony threaten to bomb/burn. He was arrested Monday.

Very few details were released about the arrest.

Sheriff’s officials would only say they “determined” Burrell “made the threatening call to the Newport News Courthouse around 10:52 a.m., and that “information gathered during the ensuing investigation led deputies to an apartment in Newport News.”

Soon after the call was made, deputies evacuated and then searched the buildings. Employees and the public were allowed inside the buildings 30 minutes later.

Authorities later found out Burrell had a court appearance scheduled the day “the threatening call was made.”
