Coaches, health professionals and athletic administrators: This symposium is for you

NEWPORT NEWS — Riverside Health System wants to educate sports officials on the best and most up-to-date medical practices with its latest symposium.

Riverside will host its Sports Medicine Symposium from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on June 23 at the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher Newport University.

The event is free but donations are encouraged. All donations will go toward the Peninsula SportsClub Scholarship.

The symposium will explore the latest trends and best practices across a variety of topics impacting today’s athletes participating in youth, high school, club and college sports, according to a news release from Riverside.

Some of the topics the four-hour session will cover include concussion recognition and management, hydration and mental health and wellness.

Four different health care officials from Riverside will lead individual discussions.
