A Newport News man wanted in December by the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, who was found and arrested in April, is now facing new charges after an altercation at a Williamsburg hospital.
Justin Marshall Evans, 35, is accused of assaulting a health care provider at Riverside Doctors’ Hospital in Williamsburg, said Maj. Greg Riley of Williamsburg Police.
Evans was in the hospital as a patient when he cursed and spat on the health care provider as he was being examined around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Riley said.
The responding Williamsburg officer charged Evans with assault and battery and issued a summons for profane language in a public space.
The charges came about two months after Evans was arrested by the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office on two outstanding larceny warrants.
In December, the sheriff’s office put out a call for public assistance in finding Evans, who authorities considered armed and dangerous at the time.
Evans was arrested April 6 after the sheriff’s office “located him while on another call.” Evans is also charged with providing false identification to police.
Online court records show he is still in custody on those three charges.
Online court records also show Evans was in jail for more than six years awaiting trial on charges from 2009, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a schedule I or II controlled substance, and possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs.
Evans was sentenced to 14 years and six months in April 2016, according to York-Poquoson Circuit Court online court records. All but five years of the sentence was suspended, resulting in his release from jail soon after his sentencing.
Evans was arrested again for violating probation in September 2016. He was given seven months in prison, records show.
