Newport News Mayor McKinley Price was reelected after defeating Council member Marcellus Harris, Dominique Green and Santiel Creekmore in Tuesday’s general election, according to the Virginia Department of Elections.
Price won with 54 percent of the votes, while Harris finished in second with 26 percent. Green had 12 percent and Creekmore finished with 5 percent.
Price has served as mayor since 2010.
Newport News City Council
David Jenkins won the central district seat with 32 percent of the votes. Cheryl Penny finished in second with 29 percent.
Sharon Scott won the north district seat with 50 percent of the votes. Curtis Bethany II finished in second with 48 percent.
Saundra Cherry won the south district seat with 50 percent of the votes. John Eley III finished in second with 33 percent.
Newport News School Board
Gary Hunter won the at large seat on the school board after running unopposed, garnering 96 percent of the votes.
Lisa Surles-Law won the central district seat with 47 percent of the votes. John Pruden III finished in second with 31 percent.
Douglas Brown won the north district seat with 41 percent of the votes. Pricillia Burnet finished in second with 40 percent.
Terri Best won the south district seat with 43 percent of the votes. Carlton Ashby finished in second with 42 percent.
Hampton
Three school board seats and three City Council seats were up for grabs. Both races went to the candidates with the top three votes.
James Gray Jr., Steve Brown and Eleanor Brown won the City Council seats. Gray has served on the council since 2016.
Joseph Kilgore, Jason Samuels and Richard Mason Jr. won the school board seats.
