James City County Police Department Opens Doors for Interactive Community Experience

JAMES CITY COUNTY— The James City County Police Department opened its doors on May 2 for a fully immersive community day.

During the event, residents took advantage of a rare opportunity to step inside their police headquarters and experience the work of local law enforcement in an engaging, hands‑on way.

From building tours, access to police vehicles of all kinds, demonstrations, and more, residents saw firsthand how the department uses both high‑tech tools and real‑world policing skills to keep James City County safe.

“The Community Open House is an invitation for residents to connect with the officers who protect and serve them. Through transparency, education, and interactive experiences, the department aims to strengthen trust and build lasting community relationships,” a department representative said.

Demonstrations included the K9 teams showing tracking and detection skills, SWAT gear and breaching tools, tactical drone operations, Dive Team and Marine Patrol equipment, and Traffic Unit motorcycles and Animal Control vehicles.

The event also featured a Child ID kit station where parents could register for a free, voluntary, safety kit or identification card provided by law enforcement to help parents quickly provide vital information to authorities if a child goes missing. These kits usually contain the child’s photo, fingerprints, physical description, and medical information, which parents keep securely at home.
