JAMES CITY COUNTY- James City County residents will have a rare opportunity to step inside their police headquarters and experience the work of local law enforcement in an engaging, hands‑on way.
On Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the James City County Police Department will host a Community Open House at the Law Enforcement Center, which is designed to bring neighbors and officers together through demonstrations, activities, and behind‑the‑scenes access.
JCCPD says the event will transform Police Headquarters into an interactive learning space where families can explore patrol vehicles, watch specialized units in action, and meet the officers who serve the community every day. Visitors will see firsthand how the department uses both high‑tech tools and real‑world policing skills to keep James City County safe.
Guests can take guided tours of the building, view daily operations, and step inside patrol vehicles and specialty units. Investigative and technology teams will showcase CSI and forensic techniques, live drone demonstrations, and the department’s virtual reality training simulator.
Specialized units will offer demonstrations and displays throughout the day, including:
- K9 teams showing tracking and detection skills
- SWAT gear and breaching tools
- Tactical drone operations
- Dive Team and Marine Patrol equipment
- Traffic Unit motorcycles and Animal Control vehicles
These demonstrations highlight the range of expertise within the department and the teamwork required across units.
Family‑friendly activities include Junior Officer stations and child ID kits with fingerprinting. Visitors can also learn about community safety programs such as Project Lifesaver, Community Action Teams, Neighborhood Watch, and the county’s security camera registration initiative.
The Community Open House is an invitation for residents to connect with the officers who protect and serve them. Through transparency, education, and interactive experiences, the department aims to strengthen trust and build lasting community relationships.
