JAMES CITY COUNTY — The James City County Police Department is inviting the public to register for its 56th Citizens Police Academy.
The free 12-week program offers county residents aged 18 and older a unique opportunity to gain insight into law enforcement practices and procedures, according to the department.
The Citizens Police Academy, established in 1995 by former Chief of Police David A. Daigneault, aims to foster better understanding and communication between citizens and law enforcement, JCCPD said. Participants will engage in a diverse curriculum covering various aspects of police work, including Department Philosophy and Organization, Uniform Patrol, Communications, Community Services and more.
The 56th session of the CPA will run from Feb. 11 to April 29, with classes held each Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. The department cautions the academy is limited to 20 participants, and interested individuals are encouraged to apply early. Applications are on the county’s website and must be submitted by Jan. 30.
To apply, visit the CPA webpage. For additional information, contact the JCCPD Community Services Unit at 757-253-1800 or pdcpa@jamescitycountyva.gov.
