Drive Safe Hampton Roads to Offer 757 Sober Ride for New Year’s Eve

HAMPTON ROADS — Drive Safe Hampton Roads announced it is sponsoring 757 Sober Ride for New Year’s Eve.

According to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Highway Safety Office’s Virginia Crash Facts, during the period from 6 p.m. Dec. 31, 2024, through 5:59 a.m. Jan. 1, 2025, there were 42 alcohol related crashes resulting in 27 injuries and two fatalities across the commonwealth.

DSHR encourages those who plan to celebrate to use Drive Safe Hampton Roads’ 757 Sober Ride by visiting drivesafehr.org/757-sober-ride. DSHR is sponsoring 757 Sober Ride for New Year’s Eve from 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31 through 4 a.m. Thursday, Jan 1.

Powered by Lyft, individuals 21 and older who are celebrating with alcohol, legal or illegal drugs may take advantage of this ride, up to $15, by following these steps:

  • Download the Lyft app to your cell phone.
  • Go to drivesafehr.org/757-sober-ride to get the 757 Sober Ride promo code.
  • DSHR’s New Year’s Eve 757 Sober Ride program promo code will be posted at 5 PM on December 31.
  • Enter the 757 Sober Ride promo code in the app’s “Payment” tab (under the “Add Lyft Pass” option).
  • Receive a sober ride home, up to $15.

DSHR stresses the code will only work during the above-stated times for rides originating from or with a destination within Hampton Roads, is valid while supplies last and subject to Lyft’s Terms of Service.

“While the news is generally good for the number of impaired driving-related crashes, injuries and fatalities in Hampton Roads, they are still happening, and we cannot rest until there are zero.” said Brian Hennessy, Chair, Drive Safe Hampton Roads’ Impaired Driving Prevention Committee. “Plan ahead of time for a sober designated driver or take advantage of the 757 Sober Ride program before you leave the house. These simple things help keep everyone on the road safe and ensure they all get to celebrate a new year.”

Supporters of the 2025 757 Sober Ride program are Drive Safe Hampton Roads, Huffman & Huffman Brothers-in-Law, and it is funded in part by a grant from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
