JAMES CITY COUNTY — The James City County Police Department recently announced that Master Police Officer Daniel L. Jackson has been named the 2025 recipient of Mothers Against Drunk Driving Virginia’s Carter Hill Award for Lifetime Achievement.

According to JCCPD, the award is one of MADD Virginia’s highest honors and recognizes Jackson’s “extraordinary career, lifelong commitment to impaired driving enforcement, and dedication to public safety.”

With over two decades in law enforcement, the department said Jackson has made 887 DUI and DUID arrests, maintaining a conviction rate of approximately 98%. He also played a key role in updating the department’s DUI procedures to address drug-impaired driving, resulting in stronger prosecutions and safer roads, it added.

Since 2012, Jackson has taught more than 4,400 high school students about the dangers of impaired driving, the department added. He is a certified NHTSA instructor, a lead trainer at the Hampton Roads Criminal Justice Training Academy and a mentor to new officers.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Jackson also serves on the Crisis Negotiations Team, the Fatal Crash Response Team, the Highway Safety Task Force and the department’s Honor Guard, according to the department. He created an Honor Wall to recognize military and police service within the department.

Accolades include the Distinguished Service Award, four Life Saving Awards, five Meritorious Service Awards, the Hampton Roads Top Cop Award and the 2024 James City County Police Department Officer of the Year, according to JCCPD.

“MPO Jackson exemplifies the highest standards of law enforcement,” said Chief of Police Mark Jamison. “His dedication to saving lives, mentoring others, and serving with integrity makes him truly deserving of this honor.”
