POQUOSON — The City of Poquoson announced its fall leaf pickup will begin Nov. 3 and run every other Monday until the end of February.
According to the city, leaves must be in clear bags — 0.50 to 0.90 mil — without drawstrings and be placed at the back of the curb so they do not block traffic or drainage.
As the service will be provided on a regular schedule, the city emphasized there is no need to call for pickup. Bags should not be placed curbside on off-collection weeks, it added.
The city said at least one of the approved types of bags below are available at Ace Hardware, Taylor’s Do It Center or True Value Hardware:
- Ruffies Pro Clear Bags — 60 Ct. 33 Gallon 0.75 mil.
- Ruffies Pro Clear Bags — 40 Ct. 39 Gallon 0.90 mil.
- Iron-Hold No Scent Drum Liners — 80 Ct. 55 Gallon 0.67 mil.
- Do It Best Flap Top Clear — 60 Ct. 33 Gallon 0.85 mil.
- ECOSAFE-6400 Compostable Bags — 6 Ct. 30 Gallon 1.1 mil. (bio-degradable)
The city cautions utilization of any other type of bag other than those described above, or bags filled with other types of waste, will not be picked up. Any bulk debris — bulk, landscape or leaf — placed curbside outside of the designated pickup time or week will be picked up and billed accordingly.
Residents should contact the Public Works department at 757-868-3590 or visit the city’s Fall Leaf Program page for more information
