WILLIAMSBURG — Colonial Williamsburg announced while in-person tickets have sold out for its inaugural “Eat, Drink, Revolution: Our Friend the Tavern” conference, virtual registration is still available.
The fall event explores taverns as both dining establishments and as important gathering places throughout the centuries, particularly in the years surrounding the American Revolution, according to the Colonial Williamburg Foundation.
Virtual registration is $100 per person and includes livestream access to all conference presentations, access to presentations as recordings through the end of the year, and a seven-day ticket voucher to Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area, valid for redemption through May of 2026.
“This conference celebrates the invaluable role that taverns played in the 18th century. In an age before the advent of mass communication, taverns were gathering places for the exchange of ideas,” said Ron Hurst, chief mission officer and senior vice president of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. “As Virginia’s colonial capital, Williamsburg was home to multiple taverns where our nation’s foundational principles were discussed and debated in the lead-up to the Revolution. Today, as a beloved cultural institution approaching its 100th anniversary, Colonial Williamsburg continues to provide a gathering place for all those interested in exploring ideas of liberty, freedom, civic responsibility, and what it means to create a more perfect union.”
Conference speakers include Pete Brown, renowned Sunday Times Magazine columnist, author and broadcaster; Jonathan Zarecki, associate professor of classical studies, University of North Carolina at Greensboro; The Beer Archaeologist Travis Rupp; Marc Meltonville, food and drink historian, author and heritage distiller; public historian and executive director of Newlin Grist Mill, Tony Shahan; Jason Baum, interpretive park ranger at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park; Sarah Hand Meacham, associate professor, Virginia Commonwealth University; and members of Colonial Williamsburg’s staff.
“Eat, Drink, Revolution: Our Friend the Tavern” is sponsored in part by Craft & Forge, a lifestyle brand that reimagines early American maker style for today’s audience with a focus on craftsmanship, authenticity, and high-quality materials, the foundation noted.
The event takes place Nov. 6-8. Registration for the virtual event is ongoing until Nov. 6. To register or learn more, visit colonialwilliamsburg.org.
