WILLIAMSBURG — CSX Transportation and Southern Commercial Development LLC recently announced upcoming railroad crossing closures in the Williamsburg area.

According to CSX, on or about June 9, a rail team will begin work in Williamsburg. The Peach Street railroad crossing will be closed to all traffic until work is complete. CSX said in a statement that “once closed, expect the closure to last at least three days, up to five days. On the crossings that are one way in/out with residents behind them, CSX will try and get these worked and completed in 12 hours.”

According to CSX, the closure is necessary to install new rail.

Work will continue alongside the railroad and will also impact travel in nearby Lanexa.

CSX cautioned work dates are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen conditions and that motorists should plan for extended travel times and delays.

Signs will be up to mark detour routes while work is ongoing. CSX has also provided a Google Map to show marked closures and the expected timeframe for those closures.
