NEW KENT — New Kent singer Grayson Torrence was voted off “American Idol” this past week.
Torrence, who earned a spot in the Top 24, performed “Ceilings” by Lizzie McAlpine during the Hawaii round of competition.
After her performance, longtime “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest commented that the crowd was fully invested in her music and asked Torrence how she felt about her first showing on the “Idol” stage.
“I never thought that I would ever be on this stage, I never thought I was ever good enough to be on this stage,” Torrence shared.
“You wouldn’t be here if you weren’t good enough. What you have to remember is that what comes with being an artist is doubt,” judge Lionel Richie added. “There is not a day in our career, not a year that goes by where we walk off stage, the crowd is screaming, we’re thinking about will they still be there? There will be doubt throughout your career, all I’m going to say is trust. God put you in this place for one thing only, to be you.”
Carrie Underwood, who won the competition in season four, added that Torrence “has the ability to tell a story” within her music, while Luke Bryan said the performance “was very emotional and it just shows another level of your artistry.”
During the results show on April 20, Torrence did not earn enough votes to advance to the next round and exited the show.
Torrence took to Facebook after the show, thanking viewers for their support.
“This journey has been an unbelievable blessing you have no clue. Thank ya’ll for all of the love and support during this journey,” she wrote. “Though it may be the end of my time on “American Idol,” it is not the end! Thank you, ‘American Idol,’ for everything and for letting me meet some of the best people I’ve ever met in my life. I wouldn’t be who I am today if I never did this so thank you for everyone who pushed me to chase my dreams.”
“This has been a crazy unexpected ride but i couldn’t be more grateful. The family I made here is insane and I know I will see them soon. Keep on killing it up there ya’ll!” she continued. “This is definitely the best season yet! With that being said, I love you guys so so so much! I promise I’m not going anywhere, see ya’ll soon.”
