WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg-James City (WJCC) School Board approved a special resolution to appoint an acting Superintendent, beginning Feb. 1 upon the retirement of current Superintendent Olwen Herron.
Daniel Keever, WJCC’s Deputy Superintendent, will fill the role of Acting Superintendent until a final decision is made during the hiring process and a new Superintendent assumes office.
The board approved this appointment unanimously and applauded the decision.
Herron offered congratulations to Keever and stated, “he will do an excellent job as Acting Superintendent. His heart is for students and he will be a great asset and will work very well with the board.”
“It was important to the board that we choose someone who will bring us through a time of transition with a steady hand and with the support and confidence I know he has from his colleagues and the board. So, we are very grateful that Dr. Keever has agreed to assume that role and we anticipate a very smooth transition,” said Board Chair, Sarah Ortego.
Keever joined WJCC Schools as Chief Operating Officer in 2020.
According to the 2020 WJCC announcement, Keever’s 25-year career in education includes experience as a classroom teacher and building and central office administrator. Before joining WJCC Schools, Keever served Virginia Beach City Public Schools as Senior Executive Director for High Schools, working directly with high school administrators.
