Furry Friends Feature: Tee Up Your Calendar with these Cooler Temperature Events

If these hotter temperature days have you looking ahead to cooler outdoor activities, The Heritage Humane Society has you covered with golf, swimming for dogs, entertainment and some legendary hometown BBQ. Have fun, make memories and help the community’s homeless pets with these upcoming events.

The year’s buzziest tee times are filling fast

Last year, the Make Par for Pets Golf Classic was the most talked about charity golf event in town. This year’s Make Par for Pets Golf Classic is Sept. 15 at Kingsmill Resort presented by Invisible Fence Brand of Hampton Roads. It is on track to sell out quickly with more than 200 golfers already signed up and a maximum of 288. Golfers can sign up as singles or up to a team of four. Breakfast, raffles, lunch, awards, entertainment and more are included with registration and select sponsorship packages.

Take on the resort’s famed River Course and Plantation Course where golfers play the same championship courses as PGA and LPGA professionals. The courses have graced the glossy pages and websites of Sports Illustrated, Golf Digest, Golf magazine and more, along with lots of television time. Their great layout, picturesque setting, and masterfully tended, undulating fairways and greens are a golfer’s delight.

This event creates major exposure for area sponsors. While they are filling up as fast as the tee times, several remain including the Eagle Sponsor, Purr-fect Team, Birdie Sponsor, 2-Course Hole Sponsor and 1-Course Hole Sponsor.

Perfect the art of the perfect belly flop

Now is the time for area dogs to work on their belly flop techniques. On Sept. 16, they’ll be able to show off their skills at the annual Drool in the Pool. This splish-splashy farewell to summer invites area dogs to take a dip in the Chickahominy Riverfront Park Pool or even be spectators thanks to event partner James City County Parks & Recreation. Fill out the online attendance form now.  Admission will be a $10 donation per dog that can be paid at the event.

Muddy Marley’s Dog Wash will be at the event again this year. For a $10 donation per dog, people can have their pups washed and towel dried at the event.

Brand new event

Paws in the Air is a new event where all proceeds benefit the McDuff Endowment Fund at The Heritage Humane Society. The McDuff Endowment Fund is a restricted fund that provides a safety net for the medical needs of homeless pets at the shelter.

While donations can be made anytime, the Paws in the Air event is an opportunity for supporters to join together on Sept. 30 at Legacy Hall in New Town. Presented by Noah’s Ark Veterinary Hospital, this 21 years old and over event will feature food from Matchsticks BBQ, beer, wine, a silent auction, raffles, live music by Identity Crisis, community vendors and more. Sponsorship opportunities are still available including Green Paws, Around the Green and Program Ads.
