WILLIAMSBURG — Virginia Regional Ballet has been named the recipient of the 2022 Business Appreciation Award by the Williamsburg Economic Development Authority.
According to a news release from the City of Williamsburg, “Mayor Douglas Pons presented co-founder Adelle Carpenter with the award during the City Council meeting on Thursday, June 9, 2022. The award recognizes City businesses whose hard work and dedication make the City of Williamsburg a better place to live, work, and visit.”
Carpenter co-founded the Virginia Regional Ballet with Heidi Robitshek, former artistic director and founder of the Chamber Ballet, back in 2007 to “bring to the community and develop among its citizens an educational and cultural program in dance.”
Virginia Regional Ballet offers weekly performance opportunities. Classes are taught by trained and experienced teachers that are qualified to teach classical ballet, contemporary, character, adaptive dance, jazz, tap, modern, hip-hop, and lyrical dance. It also provides opportunities for students with disabilities to perform in adaptive dance.
The business gives back to the community by offering scholarships and free dance classes in the summer where free lunch is also provided for students who lack the resources to attend.
Located at 1228 Richmond Road, Virginia Regional Ballet produces several ballet performances each year, including the annual Nutcracker Ballet.
