YORK COUNTY — York County is bringing back Yorktoberfest to Riverwalk Landing this year with food, beer, music and more.

While last year’s annual event was canceled due to COVID-19, Yorktoberfest is returning in full swing with a few new additions on Sunday, Oct. 24.

“This year we feel like we are in a much better position,” Toni Chavis, president of the York County Chamber of Commerce, said. “The County has been hosting other events this year so far and it’s all been going really well.”

One major change this year is that the event will be split up into two sessions to maintain social distancing and allow time to clean up in between sessions.

The morning session will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and the afternoon session will be from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

“We’re going to do everything that we can to just maintain and manage and make sure that everybody can have a great, safe event,” Chavis said.

With 14 sponsors this year, including York County, Water Street Grille and Devils Backbone Brewing Company, the family-friendly event will feature games, vendors, food and over 30 craft beers and ciders to taste. There will also be live music from CK Music Band.

For the kids, there will be basketball, inflatable axe throwing from AXE REPUBLIC and other games.

While Yorktoberfest has been held for many years, it was held on the waterfront for the first time in 2019.

“Yorktoberfest had never been on that scale before,” Chavis said. “It turned out to be such a great event that the County had already put it up on the calendar for the next three years.”

Chavis said that the biggest change for guests to be excited about is the expansion of the VIP section.

“One of the things last time that people said was ‘I wish the VIP section was bigger,'” Chavis said. “So we went bigger and better this year.”

This year’s VIP section includes entry, souvenir tasting glasses, unlimited beer tastings, a swag bag, two tickets for full glasses of beer and two-hour food service.

Riverwalk Restaurant even created a specialized menu just for VIP guests.

“So far, everybody’s been really excited,” Chavis said. “We’ve had a lot of people buying whole tables to bring their friends, families and employees.”
