YORK COUNTY — The Peninsula COVID-19 Operations Center (PCOC) was presented with Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) Achievement Award during the York County Board of Supervisors Meeting on Oct. 5.
The PCOC was formed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. Its roll was to act as an incident management team that included all six fire and emergency medical service agencies on the Hampton Roads Peninsula.
It served as a hub for data gathering and put out daily updates and guidance to the entire region. PCOC also coordinated with area hospitals to procure needed medical supplies and prepare for an increased patient load.
York County Fire Chief Stephen P. Kopczynski was on hand at the Board of Supervisors meeting to accept the award on behalf of the PCOC team.
The VACo was formed in 1930 and works to help counties all over Virginia to promote and protect their interests. The VACo Achievement Awards are given out annually and recognize excellence in local government programs.
