GLOUCESTER — Virginia State Police (VSP) has released information regarding a Tuesday evening crash in Gloucester which claimed the life of the driver and left the passenger with serious, life-threatening injuries.
On Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 6:22 p.m., VSP investigated a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Fairy’s Mill Road (Route 606), west of Fletcher Road (Route 607), in Gloucester County.
The investigation revealed that Julie Ann Tucker, a 46-year-old resident of Topping, Va., was driving a 2011 Toyota Scion which was traveling westbound with a passenger, Jimmy L. West, in her vehicle. Tucker crossed the centerline of the roadway, ran off, and struck a tree.
The vehicle then overturned several times before hitting an electrical box. Tucker and West were then ejected from the vehicle.
Both Tucker and West suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and were transported to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester. Tucker succumb to her injuries later that evening. The current medical status of West has not been released at this time.
VSP’s investigation revealed that both Tucker and West were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and that speed is considered a contributing factor. It is not yet known if alcohol was a contributing factor.
