A 63-year-old man was killed following a two-vehicle crash in James City County Thursday night.
Virginia State Police has not released the identity of the man pending notification of his next of kin.
Police said the man was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 when the vehicle broke down on Interstate 64 westbound at the 245 mile-marker at around 8:56 p.m.
The driver was outside of the disabled vehicle when a 2015 Freightliner tractor-trailer lost control, ran off the roadway, and struck the disabled vehicle and its driver, according to the State Police.
The Freightliner then struck a tree before coming to rest in the grassy area of the interstate. The 63-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Freightliner, Gleen Alan Fuselier Jr., suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He’s been charged with reckless driving, police said.
The tractor-trailer was not loaded and was towed from the scene.
There was no indication of impairment and speed was not a contributing factor, police said.
