In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the local area, Riverside Health system has changed restrictions to its visitation policy.
Riverside officials said they will not allow visitors into its facilities for routine visits nor team members in any of its five hospitals.
This includes:
- Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News
- Riverside Doctors’ Hospital in Williamsburg
- Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester
- Riverside Hospital in Tappahannock
- Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock
There are a few exceptions to this new policy.
In both the emergency department, the mother-baby unit and the neonatal intensive care unit, only one person is allowed to accompany a patient.
Patients in end-of-life situations will work with hospital leadership and team members on a case-by-case basis.
All other patients should stay in touch with their families and loved ones through electronic communication, such as video chats and telephone calls.
At all of Riverside’s convalescent centers, rehabilitation facilities and assisted living residences, visitation will be limited to essential personnel only. Patients with extenuating circumstances should have visitors contact a facility administrator or nursing director.
