Newport News man succumbs to his injuries following vehicle crash

The Newport News man involved in a single-vehicle crash Sunday has died from his injuries, according to the Virginia State Police.

He was identified as Carlitto Lamont Carmack, 42.

Police said Carmack was driving a 2015 Honda Accord on Interstate 64 in the westbound lanes, east of Mercury Boulevard in Hampton at around 2:58 a.m. Sunday.

Carmack lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway, and struck the jersey wall. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

He suffered serious injuries during that time and was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. He died Wednesday.

Alcohol was not a contributing factor of the crash, police said.
