Virginia Beach City Council is holding a special session to talk about becoming a Second Amendment Constitutional City.
The mayor sent out a letter Monday calling for a special session on Monday, January 6, to be held in support of second amendment rights.
The resolution requested by the mayor, vice mayor and councilmembers Abbott, Moss and Wilson asks for the city council to expresses its continued commitment to support all
provisions of the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the
Commonwealth of Virginia, including the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
The resolutions also asks the city council to declare the City of Virginia Beach a “Second Amendment Constitutional City and to support the actions of other elected bodies making similar declarations on behalf of Virginia counties, cities, and towns.
The Virginia Citizens Defense League, a nonprofit that aims to protect the right to bear arms, is one of the organizations pushing this movement across the state and defines a 2nd Amendment sanctuary locality as “any locality that says it will not enforce any unconstitutional (federal or state) gun laws,” according to the organizations website.
The special session is scheduled for Monday, January 6. Public discussion will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the city council chamber building.
