This Williamsburg nonprofit is collecting unwanted gift cards
The Heritage Humane Society in Williamsburg is collecting gift cards this holiday season.
The nonprofit uses these gift cards from everything from kitten supplies to gas cards for transportation expenses.
“Every animal store in town is pretty helpful,” said Kimberly Laska, executive director for the Heritage Humane Society. “If we can’t use it for our programs…we use it for other events.”
Laska said they use gift cards from Walmart, Target and even Amazon, noting the nonprofit is “pretty open” to any gift card, not just “traditional animal places”.
Other retailers include the Tractor Supply, Home Depot and Lowe’s.
She said the nonprofit doesn’t just use gift cards for the animals but for shelter repairs as well.
“Honestly we go through all of those,” Laska said. “Cash is the number one biggest need always.”
Those interested in donating gift cards can mail or drop them off at the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Road.
Monetary donations can be made here.
