Williamsburg woman dies in crash on Olde Towne Road

An 87-year-old Williamsburg woman died following a crash Wednesday night.

Information on the woman’s identity was not immediately released.

James City County Police responded to the crash at around 6:45 p.m. in the 5400 block of Olde Towne Road.

Police said a 39-year-old woman was driving a 2018 Ford Edge south on Olde Towne Road. The vehicle was entering a curve in the road when the woman told police she saw a 2002 Chrysler minivan headed toward her across the center lane.

The driver of the Ford moved over as much as she was able to, but was struck head on, police said.

The 87-year-old Williamsburg woman was driving the Chrysler. She was taken to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Ford was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News with what police described as “non-life-threatening injuries.”

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, and there were no other passengers in either vehicle, police said.
