Weather forecasts indicate the area will experience effects from this weekend’s coastal storm.

In York County, strong winds are expected to build starting Friday evening and continuing through the weekend.

This is not predicted to be a significant rain event, according to the National Weather service.

In light of that prediction, York County is opening Chisman Creek Park, 1314 Wolf Trap Road, at 3 p.m. Friday (Nov. 15), for residents to move their vehicles out of low-lying areas. Vehicles may also be moved to the McReynolds Athletic Complex at 412 Sports Way.

Officials said “vehicles should not be parked at our public schools.”

Here’s the forecast:

  • Winds – Sustained mph winds are anticipated to be in the mid-20s, with gusts into the 30s. Winds should subside late afternoon/early evening on Sunday.
  • Flooding – During periods of high tide, storm surge will produce moderate levels of flooding in low-lying areas. Coastal erosion is expected in areas normally impacted by high winds and waves. Flooding is expected to peak during the high tides on Sunday. Elevated tides will continue into early next week.
