Those who like beer and science are in for a treat Monday evening.

The Virginia Institute of Marine Science and the Alewerks Brewing Co. satellite taproom at the Premium Outlets have partnered to offer an event Monday night called “A Scientist Walks Into a Bar: Graduate Student Edition.”

From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., three VIMS graduate students will give five-minute “fast-talks” on their research, according to a VIMS event listing.

The public talks will take place every 30 minutes at the taproom, 5711-36 Richmond Road in Williamsburg.

The graduate students will also have posters for their research.

Customers are welcome to drop by the taproom, talk to the students and enter to win door prizes and discounts, according to the event.

Here’s the schedule:

  • 6:30 p.m. – Zoop Soup (and Poop): Why you should care about zooplankton by Kristen Sharpe
  • 7:00 p.m. – The End of the Line: An inside scoop  by Gail Schwieterman
  • 7:30 p.m. – Of Crabs and Clams: Building armor under stress by Kathy Longmire

The Alewerks taproom at the outlets does not serve food, but those interested in attending the event can pick up food and bring it with them.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
