NEWPORT NEWS – Virginia State Police are investigating two deadly crashes Thursday night that happened less than two hours apart.

At 10:08 p.m., state police were called to a single-vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64, east of Jefferson Avenue.

There, they found a 2018 Dodge Charger fully engulfed, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya, state police spokeswoman.

Authorities said the driver, Taje Jarodd Revelle, 28, was traveling west on I-64, swerved right toward the 255 exit ramp, lost control, and ran off the road way into the gore area, striking a rock wall and becoming fully engulfed.

Revelle, of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene, and was taken to the Medical Examiners Office for identification.

As troopers were investigating that crash, another call was received at approximately 11:51 p.m. of another single-vehicle crash that resulted in another fatality at the same location, in the westbound lanes of I-64 at Jefferson Avenue.

A 2017 Dodge Charger, driven by Steven Alonso Roberts, was traveling west on I-64, took the 255B exit ramp, lost control, struck the guardrail causing the vehicle to run off the roadway into a man-made lake, Anaya said.

Roberts, 39, of the 100 block of Windsor Pines Way, Newport News, died at the scene.
