Parents who shop at the Dollar General might want to take a look at their medicine cabinet.
Kingston Pharma, LLC announced Wednesday they were recalling their two-fluid ounce bottles of DG™/health NATURALS baby Cough Syrup + Mucus, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The recalled product was distributed nationwide to Dollar General Stores.
The recall comes because of the potential for the product to be contaminated with Bacillus cereus or Bacillus circulans.
Bacillus cereus can have the potential to cause gastrointestinal illness when consumed in food products. This primarily is known to cause vomiting but it can also result in diarrhea.
Individuals at severe risk of those symptoms are children, infants and others with weak immune systems.
There have been no illnesses reported in connection to the product as of Wednesday.
The FDA has suspended production of the product while the company continues their investigation into the problem.
Those who have bought the product may return them to them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Earlier in February, the company also recalled their DG™ Baby Gripe Water herbal supplement with organic ginger and fennel extracts after the product was found to contain citrus flavonoid, according to the company’s website.
Use of that undissolved ingredient is not considered to be hazardous but could result in difficulty swallowing for sensitive individuals. The orally administered product was distributed for infants and adults. The product was sold in four-ounce amber bottles with white plastic caps and an oral syringe.
The FDA said customers who have purchased the product should stop using and discard it.
